Why I keep coming back to Yoga

The practice of yoga can be so many different things for different people. Heck, it’s different things to me!

I use Yoga to help my body recover - from other exercise modalities including strength training and running, and currently, helping me regain flexibility and mobility post hip surgery.

With Yoga I get to move my body in different ways, from that repetitive forward motion of running (yes, I’m getting back to it slowly!!), and with lifting heavy things.

I turn to Yoga to help me de-stress, to relax, to down regulate my nervous system.

I come back to the breathing tools I have learned in Yoga to help me find calm in the chaos - most recently this helped with those pre-surgery anxious feelings. And before that, to keep me calm during the MRI procedure - what is it with being in that tunnel??

And day to day, my practice helps me keep my wits, or at least helps me lose my s&%* less, with being a mom to two teenage boys.

My yoga practice has evolved and continues to evolve as my life and body have different demands and needs, and I think, actually, I know, that’s why I keep coming back to it. It’s always there, meeting me where I’m at, physically, mentally and emotionally.
